Trivia/Background:
This one was a little shorter than I wanted, even shorter than the last one, but we were just going to Yulara so didn’t really look at most of what was to be seen here - and it couldn’t really be stuck on the end of the last one or the start of the next one…
In fact, it’s the first in the series to not even cover a whole day…
Video:
Description:
Formerly known as The Mereenie Loop, the Red Centre Way provides an alternative route from Alice Springs down to the Lasseter Highway. Along it are many attractions such as Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek, Serpentine Gorge, Orniston Gorge and Redbank Gorge, but as we’re just using it as the back way into Yulara, the one we’re primarily interested in is Kings Canyon.
This massive canyon can be traversed via the Rim Walk, a spectacular and picturesque walk around the top of the canyon itself.

Trivia/Background:
We needed something to do…
Not filmed was a Codan 6924 in outstandingly good condition at the tyre alignment place!
Video:
Description:
While the Landcruiser’s getting a much needed wheel alignment, we check out some tourist attractions in Alice Springs - starting with the Reptile Centre. But we go in search of something a little more radio related and the choice is obvious - School Of The Air. After that we go and check out the Royal Flying Doctor Service museum - but is Alf Traeger’s legacy and major contribution to outback living really being remembered?

Trivia/Background:
The excitement of the Canning over, this one is a little less action packed. But I think it turned out pretty interesting.
Funny thing is in this one, we covered about as much distance as the Canning - in two and a bit days.
Video:
Description:
In the next part of our adventure, we drive from Halls Creek to Alice Springs. Originally planning to do this via the Tanami Highway / Tanami Road / Tanami Track, we decide to go the long way round due to poor road conditions, making the most of the Northern Territory’s 130km/h speed limit on major highways… which we soon discover has a bit of a downside.

First use of C2 SliceX, for a semi-useful purpose.
Bought it thinking I’d use it sooner. Mostly takes place on foot, unlike earlier videos.
Video:
Description:
Unknown to most other than the locals until 1983, and only declared a National Park in 1987, this spectacular area, a UNESCO World Heritage site like Uluru and The Great Barrier Reef, has much to see.
The Bungle Bungle range features massive rock chasms, slot canyons with high walls, and spectacular views from lookouts, this place is well worth a visit.

Trivia/Background:
The last bit of the CSR (but not the end of the series!) - I was going to split this into two videos, as it did come out rather long, but I just couldn’t figure out where to split it - it just didn’t seem right to end exactly on Well 51.
Video:
Description:
Backtracking a little to check out the Honeycombed Bluff to see some rock art, we continue on down the Canning. We find out who perhaps shouldn’t have “bought a jeep”, see how Well 46 didn’t stay restored, check out the who’s who on the side of Godfrey Tank, find a new strategy for dealing with flying insects, and navigate around a fence in the way of Well 51.
Then we divert from the CSR into the Paruku IPA - visiting some amazing campsites, before coming to the end of the CSR track in Billiluna, continuing up the Tanami to the Wolfe Creek Crater (more famous for a movie shot in South Australia, interspersed with stock footage of the crater), and then reach Halls Creek. But I’ll tell you why it’s the wrong Halls Creek - and show you the right one.
This isn’t the end of the adventure though - we’re well ahead of schedule and have just over two weeks to get back home across half of Australia. It’s a big country, so stay tuned to see what we get up to next…

Trivia/Background:
At Well 37, apparently there’s another grave marker that we missed…
Video:
Description:
Continuing further down the Canning, we cover the story of why Well 37 may or may not have been called “the haunted well”, get stuck for the first time, take a look inside a cave, visit a well that’s rather distinct from all the others, try to work out who’s been leaving half empty barrels of jet fuel around the place, cross a lake, cross a dune in a lake, find the newest addition to the collection of abandoned vehicles along the CSR, attempt to go to a place that few others have been (Helena Spring), find the world’s smallest cairn, drive in a very straight line and then finally, try to get hot coals out of a pile of twigs.

Trivia/Background:
Apparently, you can go down into Mujingerra Cave, and there’s a spring in the cave. The dead camel and the fact it’s caved in, make this a lot less desirable.
Kunawarritji is one of the very few places you can buy a kangaroo tail, they’re not particularly easy to find, even in Australia.
Video:
Description:
In this video, we begin at Georgia Bore, proceeding through the ominous warning signs. see how 4WD travellers used to have to get their fuel, check out the well restored Tiwa, climb some hills, meet some other travellers for the first time, see the results of Snell and Canning having an argument over the placement of a well, visit Kunawarritji Community to buy fuel, supplies and a shower - and check out how close we were to running out of fuel.
Then we had on to our destination for the night, and I show you how to cook (and eat) a kangaroo tail.

Trivia/Background:
The salt lake just invites filming all sorts of strange stuff, but an ASPW parody was inevitable.
Trouble is, we didn’t remember how that scene exactly went, and so Rusty had to describe it from memory to try and get the same footage, as we couldn’t just watch the video…
Video:
Description:
Heading on from Durba Springs, the 4WD’ing gets much more difficult as we take the detour into the Diebil Hills. Two years of track closure and two years of heavy rainfall in an area that already had a reputation for being overgrown added up to a very difficult time. From there we went to Onegunyah Rockhole, camped on the side of Lake Disappointment, looked for a missing Tropic of Capricorn sign, crossed the infamous Savory Creek Crossing, and then headed to Georgia Bore before sunset where I dismantle all the bash plates to get the spinfex out.

Trivia/Background:
This one features some footage contributed by Mark of the other end of the HF contact, so now you get to see how the other end looks…
Video:
Description:
In the next part of the adventure, we continue further along the Canning Stock Route to eventually end up at the picturesque Durba Springs.
Departing from Milyinirri / Pierre Springs, we travel through Glen-Ayle Station, visit the historically significant Well 9 at Palatji, the green plains of Panju / Gandarri / Goodwin Soak, camp a night next to the very white open space of Lake Aerodrome, find more burnt out scrap metal on the side of the track, show you how to do a pre-start check, tell you what happened to Murray Rankin and his trolley, climb a hill to Canning’s Cairn, skip past Well 17 (but that’s actually historically accurate), and arrive at the amazingly picturesque and green Pinpi / Durba Springs, an incongruously lush oasis in the desert.
I’ve recently updated the blog to use a newer version of Hugo (0.107.0, up from 0.26) and the theme has been modified a bit to continue to work with it.
In addition to this, I’ve decided to add some entries for my other project, DropTableAdventures - there is now a blog post for each video released, with some bonus information, trivia and metadata about each that’s not been published anywhere else.
